Can I get a refund if I return the camper early?

No, refunds are not given for returning the camper early.

When will the rental contract become active?

The rental contract becomes active when you sign the contract at Happy Campers headquarters.

Does it matter which credit card I bring?

Yes. We will always need the lessee's ( driver's ) credit card on file for insurance reasons. 

What is the minimum rental period?

The minimum rental period is 3 full days (72 hours).

When will you charge my credit card?

All rentals are paid for upon arrival. Payment (in euros) is by credit card, debit card or cash, and is charged when you pick up the camper van. You always need also a valid credit card from the lessee ( the renter ) for security and insurance reasons. If you are paying by cash, please bring the exact amount. We cannot provide change.

Is it possible to add a third driver?

Yes, you can add up to two (2) additional drivers. All drivers have to be over 21 years of age.

Can I pay with cash, debit card, or a wire transfer?

Yes, you can pay with credit card, debit card, or cash, but we always need a valid credit card from the lessee ( driver ) for security and insurance reasons. We do not accept wire transfers. If you are paying with cash, please bring the exact amount in euros. We cannot provide change.

What kind of camper vans do you have?

All of our camper vans are manual transmission vehicles. Actual make and model may vary depending on availability, so we reserve the right to deliver a similar vehicle. By similar vehicle, we mean that we will deliver a vehicle that will fulfill the requirements of the vehicle type and class that you booked. Not all our camper vans are brand new, but they are all well maintained and in very good condition.

How old do I have to be to rent a camper van?

The minimum age to rent and/or drive a camper van is 21 years old.

How should I plan my trip?

It's always good to be well prepared and thankfully there are many good resources online. Is my reservation guaranteed, even if I don't give my credit card number when booking?

Yes, your reservation is guaranteed. We do not require a credit card number when booking a camper van but your reservation will be guaranteed just the same.

Is insurance included in the rental price?

Yes, a Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is included in the rental price, which limits the driver's liability to a certain amount. The liability amount is EUR 2.000,- for each accident. Please review the terms & conditions before booking a rental car.

Can I cancel my reservation?

Yes, you can cancel your reservation at any time without cancellation fees. We simply ask that you let us know as soon as possible. 

Do I need to bring a credit card when I pick up the camper van?

Yes, even if you are not paying with a credit card, you will need to bring the lessee's (driver's) credit card for us to put on file for insurance purposes.

Can I make changes to my reservation?

Yes, you can make changes any time you want, without any fees. Please send us an e-mail to info@happycampers.is as soon as you would like to make a change. Remember to include your reservation number, which you can find in your confirmation e-mail.

Do I have to pay in advance when booking online?

No, you do not have to pay anything in advance. All bookings are paid upon arrival at our office in Reykjavik.

What is the fuel service fee?

If the rental car is not returned with a full tank of fuel, we will charge the renter for the fuel (based on current fuel prices) + EUR 50 service fee for filling up the tank.

I didn't receive a confirmation e-mail, what should I do?

A confirmation e-mail should arrive to customers no later than 24 hours after the booking took place. If you have not received confirmation, please check the follwing:

Did you finalize the booking process ?

Did the confirmation e-mail go to your junk mail folder (spam) ?

If you have checked those factors, please send us an e-mail to info@happycampers.is with your name, arrival and pick-up dates and type of vehicle and we will check your booking and reply to you within 24 hours.

Can I change the insurance when I pick up the camper van?

Yes, you can.

What kind of insurance do you offer?

Gravel Protection ( GP ) is an optional damage waiver which covers damages to the front wind screen, headlights and the car body when gravel or rocks get thrown at the rental car by another car.

Do you offer a drop-off service to Keflavik airport?

No, we do not offer a drop-off service to Keflavik international airport. However, we do offer a free drop-off service within Reykjavik area. Most of our clients go to a hotel / motel in Reykjavik or the Central Bus Station where you can buy a Fly-Bus ticket to Keflavik.

Can I pick up or return the camper van outside opening hours?

No, we are only open for pick-up and drop-off 8:00 - 17:00 every day. For special requests, please contact us at info@happycampers.is

Do I need an international driver's license to rent a car?

No, a valid national driver's license is sufficient. 

Do you offer emergency breakdown assistance?

Yes, we offer a 24/7 roadside assistance service for all of our customers. Just call our service number (+354) 781-9600 and we will help you find a solution to your problem.

Where can I get groceries for my trip?

There are several good supermarkets close to our office in Reykjavik. We recommend either Krónan or Bónus, since they are the two cheapest options. The closest stores are here and here.

Where are your pick-up and drop-off locations?

Both pick-up and drop-off is at our headquarters in Reykjavik, Rofabær 9, 112 Reykjavik.

Does the camper van have a toilet and shower?

No, our campers do not have a toilet or shower. The reason is that our goal is to make our camper vans as simple as possible to drive and operate. Showers and travel toilets require a lot of space and are complicated to operate. But do not worry, in Iceland there are many gas stations, small shops, and restaurants where you can use the bathroom facilities. You can also find our famous geothermal swimming pools in almost every small village around the island where you can swim, shower, go to the hot tubs etc. for a very small fee. Most campgrounds also offer good facilites for tourists to use. For this reason, we decided to not have toilets and showers in our camper vans.

Where will I find you at Keflavik airport?

We will wait for you in the arrival hall at the airport, holding a sign with your name on it. Please approach our employee and let us know who you are. They will use the shuttle bus to drive you to our office in Reykjavik, an approx. 30-40 minute drive, to pick up your camper van. The earliest airport pickup we provide is 8:30.

Do I need a sleeping bag?

No, it is not necessary for most people. Everything you need to sleep in the camper van is included (sheet, pillow, blanket, and a comforter) and that, in addition to the heating system, is enough to stay warm and comfortable. Some people, however, get cold very easily and prefer having an extra sleeping bag during colder nights. If you are one of those people, we recommend bringing your own sleeping bag or renting one from us (see more information under "Extras")

What is included in the rental price?

The rental price includes unlimited kilometers, 24 % VAT tax, Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), bedding (sheet, pillows, blankets, duvets, all cookware, etc.) - basically everything you need to cook, eat and sleep in the camper van. Please review terms and conditions before booking a rental car.

How is the price calculated?

It is very simple: You pay low season price for low season days, and high season price for high season days etc,

Do you offer FREE pick-up service?

Yes, we offer FREE pick-up service to our customers within the greater Reykjavik area and Keflavik international airport. Please put your pick-up information in the reservation - flight number / arrival time or hotel name. Our employee will give you a ride to our office to pick-up your camper van. This service is available every day from 8:30 - 16:30.

Where do I get the best price?

Our best prices are always online, so the cheapest and easiest way to book a camper van is using our website. Simple, isn't it?

Where can we park/stay overnight?

We strongly encourage you to use local campsites. If that is not an option, you are allowed to park the van in certain areas around the country. Make sure that the spot is not private property, a national park, or a place of sanctity, as you are not allowed to spend the night in those places. Note that some smaller towns around Iceland also have special laws prohibiting camping outside of campsites. Finally, remember that off-road driving is prohibited everywhere in Iceland in order to protect Icelandic nature.
